Thoin and Hutchings Stack Big Weight to Win Summer Open

For the third year in a row, The Bass Federation of New Hampshire headed north to Lake Champlain (Ticonderoga) to host a two day Summer Open. A record 40 teams showed up from several states to take part in the tournament. This time around, warmer weather and lack of rain had left the fishery around three feet lower than normal levels. Even still, anglers headed out both mornings at 6:00am in hopes of bringing in the biggest bag of fish. Teams reported excellent fishing conditions this time around which became apparent during day 1 weigh-in when all 40 teams brought in an 8 fish limit.

The team of Thoin and Hutchings who have been known to do well here before brought in an incredible 37+ lb bag of largemouth. Matt and Shane extended their lead during day 2 to secure their victory with a total weight of 64.71lbs with 16 fish. Matt and Shane reported that most fish came from a single area that contained a huge school of fish. However, these guys had company both days, and it was “the spot within the spot” that gave them an edge and the win. Congratulations to the rest of the field who also walked away with a sweet payout.

We would like to thank everyone who came out to fish with us, Ticonderoga Chamber of Commerce (518-585-6619), The Town of Ticonderoga, and the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism for hosting this event. We would also like to thank everyone for volunteers and/or helped in any way.
